Caring for Your Copper
Everything you need to know to keep your handcrafted piece beautiful for decades to come.
"After 45 years of working with copper, I can tell you this: copper isn't like other metals. It lives, it changes, and it tells the story of the person wearing it. Here's everything I've learned about keeping it beautiful."

Copper is a living metal
Over weeks and months, pure copper slowly develops a warm, darker tone called a patina. This is not a flaw or a sign of poor quality — it's the opposite. Only pure copper develops a patina. Plated or imitation pieces never will.
Many of my customers grow to love the aged, antique look. But if you prefer the bright shine of new copper, restoring it takes less than a minute — see below.
A green mark on your skin? Completely normal.
From time to time, you may notice a faint green mark on your skin where the copper rests. Please don't worry — this is simply pure copper reacting with the natural oils and moisture of your skin. It's completely harmless and washes off easily with soap and water.
In fact, like the patina, it's one more proof that you're wearing genuine, unplated copper.
Bringing back the shine
- 1Squeeze a little fresh lemon juice onto a soft cloth and add a pinch of salt.
- 2Gently rub the copper until the shine returns — usually under a minute.
- 3Rinse with cool water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Do
- Wear it daily — copper is made to be worn
- Clean it with lemon and salt whenever you like
- Store it in a dry place, ideally in a soft pouch
- Dry it thoroughly if it gets wet
Avoid
- Swimming or showering while wearing it
- Contact with perfume, lotion, and household chemicals
- Harsh polishes or abrasive scrubbing
- Storing it in damp places like the bathroom
With a little love, your copper piece will outlast us all —
and only grow more beautiful with the years.
